The search continues for a new Torquay Ward Councillor in the Surf Coast Shire Council, with another countback announced.
After an initial countback on Tuesday, the Victorian Electoral Commission has confirmed that Eric Menogue, the candidate with enough votes to be elected didn’t return a declaration of qualification before the 48 hour deadline.
It means another countback will be held on Wednesday 5 November, with votes to be redistributed to the remaining candidates who were unsuccessful in 2024.
It’s been a lengthy process so far, with technical issues on Monday pushing the first count out to Tuesday.
The position was left vacant by the resignation of Rebecca Bourke in September.
Interested locals can watch the countback online, with a link to join to become available at 10am on the day at vec.vic.gov.au.
