UPDATE: The road has been cleared and no longer needs to be avoided.
Motorists were earlier advised to avoid Walter Road, Barrabool on Tuesday afternoon, following a suspected illegal dumping incident.
The Surf Coast Shire Council posted to social media to warn locals a large number of screws were spread across the road, which had the potential to cause tyre damage.

The team had crews on-site are responding to the incident, asking locals to avoid the road in the short-term while they cleared the incident.
