Teens arrested over smoke shop fires

A Wyndham teenager is among two people arrested in relation to two tobacco shop fires in Melbourne’s north.

The stores were targeted in Glenoy in the early hours on May 17.

A 16-year-old boy from Hoppers Crossing was arrested this week as part of an investigation into an unrelated incident.

He is expected to be charged with offences including arson, car theft and possess a prohibited weapon.

A 17-year-old boy from Doonside was also charged and bailed to face a children’s court at a later date.

Police say investigations are continuing into the fires.

There have been almost 60 incidents of arson at stores selling tobacco across Victoria.

One store in Lara was targeted twice in less than a week, before the owners shut the business permanently.
