It has been ten-years since the Wye River and Separation Creek bushfires.
The blaze was ignited by a lightning strike at Jamieson Creek on December 19, 2015.
It then significantly escalated on Christmas Day, ultimately burning more than 2,500 hectares of steep terrain.
More than 110 homes were destroyed in the fire.
Roy Moriarty was the Wye River Fire Brigade captain at the time, and said they still marvelled at orderly evacuation process, with no lives lost.
“I came back to the station at midnight on Christmas Eve and I thought there was no way the fire was getting out, but I was shocked the next day when it jumped the lines,” he said.
He believed the anniversary would bring a mix of emotions for people.
The local brigade will be holding events today and Saturday, to mark the anniversary with the community and families.
