You wouldn’t think much would unnerve Gary Ablett Jr.
Especially when the label of the GOAT seemed to not cause him any worries.
But that’s not the case.
“For the club to be in another grand final, I get more nervous watching them then I did as a player,” he told Geelong Broadcasters Tom, Lingy and Loggy.
“I get asked if I miss the game all the time, and there are definitely aspects I do. Finals is why you play, for that chance of winning the flag.
“When you’re playing, you can do something about it, but I might be switching the TV off at some point.”
The two-time premiership Cat says though he won’t be on the field, he has been called on by current Cats Ollie Dempsey and Bailey Smith for advice in the lead-up to the game.
“We’ve been talking, but it’s more around easing the pressure,” he said.
“It’s a huge occasion, but we’ve just had a few chats about enjoying the moment, focusing on what they can control and that’s how they play themselves.
“I think if they’re at their best, they’re going to be very hard to beat, but you’ve also got two very good teams out there.”
As for many of the Cats former greats, the day is shaping as a busy one for Gaz.
“I’ve got a few events in the morning,” he said.
“Then I will be on site at the G for a luncheon, but then I can head home and watch it with the family if I want.
“I’m still working it out, I’m a nervous watcher so I’m not sure sitting at the G is the best thing for me.”
