Geelong will host the Matildas on December 2.
The match against Colombia is being played at Kardinia Park, and will be the first time in two years the Aussie women’s team has played in Victoria.
The last time the Tillies were in Geelong was December 2024, where they beat Chinese Taipei 6-0.
Heather Garriock from Football Australia said they were not treating this game as a friendly.
“It is part of our preparations for the World Cup (in 2027),” she said.
“Playing here in Geelong is a really important part of the preparations.”
Major Events Minister Anthony Carbines was confident the game would be a sell out.
“I know we can be sure we’ll pack this stadium out,” he said.
“We know Geelong is a great host of major events.”
Mike McInstry from Football Geelong said the Matildas unified the community.
“I just love it when they come down to Geelong,” he said.
“It showcases Geelong – GMHBA Stadium is a great venue for it.
“In years gone by, two to three thousand people turned up [for a game], now this place will be full.”
Mr McInstry said he would also like to see the Socceroos at Kardinia Park down the track.
