The finish date for road works in a Surf Coast community has been pushed back after wet weather issues.
The Surf Coast Shire Council has provided an update on works at the intersection of Coombes and Messmate Roads in Torquay, now expected to wrap up in late September.
During recent excavations, it was found that significant rainfall has made the ground underneath softer and wetter than expected, with further rain only making things more difficult.
The local council has informed locals that this means extra work is required to build a strong foundation for the new roundabout, and has similarly slowed down upgrades along Coombes Road between Messmate Road and the Surf Coast Highway.
They’ve thanked locals for their patience, saying they understand delays aren’t ideal but the extra steps will ensure a better quality road.
The roundabout works commenced in June.
