Winchelsea locals have been trained in how to perform CPR on anyone suffering a heart attack.
The town has graduated from Ambulance Victoria’s Heart Safety Community program, aimed at improving survival rates for cardiac arrest.
Locals were trained in performing CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED)
Two new publicly accessible AEDs were also installed in the town.
Ambulance Victoria has also announced Aireys Inlet and Fairhaven will be taking part in the program over the next year.
Terry Marshall from AV said it was important to raise awareness.
“Minutes matter in a cardiac arrest and I’m so pleased these communities are now in a better position to save more lives, understanding the importance of bystander intervention and calling Triple Zero (000) immediately,” he said.
“Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere and at any time.
“We’re eager to work with Fairhaven and Aireys Inlet residents to empower them to take action in someone’s time of need.”
