Works are underway to upgrade barriers on North Geelong’s Separation Street rail overpass.
The $4.2 million project will see a stronger steel barrier installed on the Geelong-bound side of the bridge.
The existing railing was installed in 1970, but the Victorian government says the upgrades will improve safety for the thousands of vehicles that use Melbourne Road each day.

The first stage of the project should be completed by the end of August.
Traffic controllers and reduced speed limits are in place while the works are carried out.
