Further positive signs out of Viva Energy’s Corio refinery, a week on from the fire.
An advice warning in place around the site has been downgraded to a community information on Wednesday afternoon.
Fire Rescue Victoria said the situation continues to ease, with air quality, water runoff and atmosphere testing all returning safe levels.
“The safety of the community, first responders and Viva Energy employees has been and remains our highest priority,” an FRV spokesperson said.
“While the fire at the refinery has been extinguished, FRV continues to manage the incident, and firefighters remain at the scene to ensure there is no risk.
“Once the scene has been made safe, the incident will be handed over to Viva Energy for the beginning of recovery activities and the continued operation of the site.”
FRV said the latest message will be the last one issued for the fire, unless the situation changes.
A community meeting has been announced for 7pm on Thursday 23 April at the Cloverdale Community Centre, 167-169 Purnell Road, Corio.
