NAIDOC Week will officially begin on Monday morning for the local region, with a flag raising at the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-Op in North Geelong.

Events will be held nationwide celebrating this year’s theme ‘Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud.’

Locals can acknowledge the week by attending the flag raising ceremony from 11am at the North Geelong headquarters.

“Our annual flag raising event gets bigger each year, and this year we are expecting a lot of mob at our place on Monday,” the organisers said on the event page.

The Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-Op will be holding more events throughout the week including an Aunties and Uncles lunch on Tuesday, a youth ball on Wednesday and a kids disco on Thursday night.

The Co-Op is also encouraging locals to join the Melbourne NAIDOC Week March on Friday, with organisation providing bus transport to and from Melbourne for the event.
