A Werribee man will face court for reportedly driving away from police after he was pulled over for questioning.

The 31-year-old was approaching a booze bus site on Saturday night when officers say they spotted an unrestrained 3-year-old child in the man’s rear seat.

Police pulled over the man who then allegedly refused to provide driver’s licence and then drove away at a fast rate of speed on the freeway towards Geelong.

Highway Patrol the investigated the man who they tracked to an address in Werribee, finding his car out the front of the house.

Police interviewed the man at his house and impounded his car at a cost of over $1,000, while he’s also been charged on summons to appear at the Werribee Magistrates Court to answer charges of failing to stop on police direction, failing to obey a police direction, driving with an unrestrained child and failing to update VicRoads with his change of address.

Officers say had the man remained with police earlier, he likely would have only received a penalty notice.
