Celebrations from parts of the community after the planned Lara incinerator was all but killed off.
The proposed Prospect Hill International project failing to receive a license to operate a waste-to-energy facility from Recycling Victoria.
Member for Lara Ella George saying Lara residents had won.
“This comes after years of advocacy from locals,” she said.
“I’ve been proud to stand by the Lara community and fight against the big incinerator,” she said.
“And today, we’ve won.
“This is a great outcome for Lara and our community. There were many legitimate concerns about
this project, including a complete lack of social licence.
Hundreds of local residents contacted me with their concerns, and their message was loud and clear: local residents do not support a big incinerator.
“This victory belongs to the Lara community and activists who fought hard to stop the big incinerator in Lara.”
The controversial project has been met with multiple local protests across the past years, including businesses, council and state and federal politicians.
