The next stage of the Fyans Street rail bridge in South Geelong will get underway this month.

Key sections of the structure have been delivered to the site in recent weeks.

It is part of the level crossing removal project and is expected to be moved into place later this year.

The central span of the bridge will be made from four steel girders, totalling 400 tonnes.

A further two bridge spans will be made of precast concrete, and sit either side of the steel structure.

Meantime, drivers are being warned of road closures from April 10 for two weeks.

Authorities say that will allow critical water main and drainage to be installed.

Buses will also be replacing trains on the Geelong line between Waurn Ponds and Wyndham Vale between April 13 and 21.
