Upgrades on a sewer pipeline between Barwon River and the Barwon Heads Pump station should get underway in 2024.
Barwon Water says the work is due to start in February, following the peak holiday season.
However the water authority says a temporary pipeline needs to be constructed before the main works start.
The position of the temporary pipe is being finalised, and will be shared over coming weeks.
Works on the main sewer pipeline is expected to take around nine months, weather permitting, and should be finished by late next year.
Barwon Water says the pipe will prevent future sewer spills, protecting the environment and maintaining reliable services.
