A by-election will be held in August for a new councillor at Wyndham City.
Jennie Barrera resigned as councillor earlier this month, citing the refusal of beleaguered mayor Preet Singh to step down.
She released a statement on May 1, saying the current situation at the council made it untenable for her to continue in her role.
Councillor Singh has faced calls to resign after revelations he provided a character reference for a man convicted of child sex charges, before he was elected to council.
The Victorian Electoral Commission [VEC] says residents in the Heathdale Ward will have their say in the August by-election, which will be held by post.
It is encouraging locals to ensure they are correctly enrolled by May 20.
The ward includes Hoppers Crossing and Werribee.
