The City of Greater Geelong is refusing to budge on its refusal to establish a public live site for Wednesday night’s Matildas-England World Cup semi-final.

The cash-strapped council will only consider setting up a family-friendly screening area if the Australian team wins tomorrow’s game and advances to the final.

It means families hoping to share in the excitement will have to stay home, or travel to Werribee where the local council has agreed to set up a public live site in the CBD.

The Werribee site will be set up in Wyndham Park, a huge public area immediately behind the CBD.

The Kardinia Park Trust earlier told Geelong Broadcasters the hallowed Cats turf is not used for live sites, despite having previously screened Grand Final broadcasts inside the stadium.

If the Matildas make it through to the final the game is likely to be screened at St Marys’ oval.
