Former local cricketer to open for England

A former Bell Post Hill cricketer is set to take guard as the new opener for the English cricket team.

Emilio Gay named in England’s squad for the upcoming England series against New Zealand.

Gay taking the place of Zak Crawley who has been dropped after a horror Ashes series in Australia.

Gay debuted for Bell Post Hill as an overseas professional back in the 2019/20 season, starring for the side making 333 runs at 47.

He went on to play for Geelong Cricket Club in Victorian Premier Cricket, debuting in 2023.

He’s since starred for Northamptonshire and Durham in country cricket, and the England A side.

He previously played three T20I matches for Italy.
