Police have been called to a local junior football match following an off-field brawl involving members of the crowd.
Geelong Broadcasters has obtained footage of a fracas involving up to 15 people at Howard Harmer Oval as Barwon Heads hosted Lara in an under-16 division two match.
The footage shows a push-and-shove involving adults on the sidelines before several Seagulls players become involved.
Police confirmed to Geelong Broadcasters they were called to the venue around 11:45.
However, no complaints were made to the attending officers, and no arrests were made.
AFL Barwon, Barwon Heads and Lara have all condemned the behaviour following the match, which the Cats won by one point.
“AFL Barwon is aware of a video circulating involving an off-field incident that occurred during an under-16 match yesterday,” the local governing body said in a statement.
“This type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated at any level of our competitions.
“AFL Barwon is following due process to address the matter appropriately and will not be making any further comment until that process has been completed.”
The Seagulls have confirmed they are conducting their own investigation into the incident.
“The Barwon Heads Football Netball Club unequivocally condemns this behaviour and has already commenced a full and thorough investigation into the incident,” president Russell Hyland said.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to the well-being of all players and volunteers, and we will continue to provide them with the support they need.
“No further comment will be made at this time.”
Lara president Chris Spence said: “The Lara Football Netball Club is aware of a video circulating involving an off-field incident from our under-16 division two match yesterday.”
“We have had preliminary contact with AFL Barwon, and understand an investigation is imminent.
“We will allow the investigation to proceed and will not provide further public comment.
“We reiterate and support AFL Barwon’s stance on this behaviour being completely unacceptable and not to be tolerated.”
Geelong Broadcasters has chosen not to publish the footage due to the involvement of minors.
