Twelve people have been killed in a mass shooting at Bondi beach.
Emergency services were called after two gunmen opened fire on Sunday night.
Eleven civilans have been killed, while one of the two gunmen was also killed.
A second gunman has been arrested.
The incident taking place as a Hanukkah event was celebrated at the beach.
NSW premier Chris Minns referred to the act as “cowardly,” and said the incident was being designated as a terrorism incident that targeted the Jewish community, with police confirming it had been designated a terrorism incident.
NSW police commissioner Mal Lanyon said they had acted promptly, and called for the community to remain calm and allow the police to continue their investigation.
”We have police right around the community to keep the community safe,” he said.
Police say they are investigating if anyone else is connected to the incident.
Police have also stated that an improvised explosive device was found in a car.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese referred to the attack as horrific act of anti-Senitism.
But he also praised the courage of everyday Australians.
“.. without hesitating, put themselves in danger to keep their fellow Australians safe,” Mr Albanese said.
“We have Australians today run towards danger to help others.
“These Australians are heroes and their bravery has saved lives.”
