Vietnam is rapidly becoming a top international destination for Australian travellers, with new data highlighting a remarkable surge in popularity this year. The country’s growth as a travel hotspot is outpacing other beloved destinations, and experts predict the trend is here to stay.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the number of Australians visiting Vietnam increased by an impressive 54% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2019.
InsideAsia Tours also reported a 46% year-on-year rise in direct bookings for the first half of 2025 compared to 2024, reflecting growing interest among Aussie travellers.
Data from popular travel site Klook revealed that hotel reservations in Vietnam skyrocketed by 250% between March and June this year, compared to the same period last year. Similarly, activity bookings in the country jumped by 170% in the same timeframe.
Vietnam’s growing appeal lies in its outstanding value for money. For Australians, the combination of affordable prices and the steady strength of the Australian dollar against the Vietnamese dong makes it a highly cost-effective destination.
Travelers can make their budgets go further, with an average meal or taxi ride costing around $5 AUD, while a large 1L bottle of water—essential due to the need to avoid tap water—comes in at less that $1.
The affordability of Vietnam is a major draw for budget-conscious travellers. For instance, the low cost of everyday expenses allows visitors to enjoy a richer experience without breaking the bank.
The Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) also highlighted Vietnam’s meteoric rise in its latest Travel Trends Report. In April, Vietnam saw the highest growth in Aussie visitors at 28.5%, followed by Japan at 17% and China at 12.7%.
With its unique charm, affordability, and growing accessibility, Vietnam is establishing itself as a must-visit destination for Australians seeking adventure, culture, and value.
