Reigning premiers Barwon Heads will be hoping for a repeat performance of the 2022 BFNL finals, after being beaten in the qualifying final by Torquay on Saturday by 57 points at Portarlington Reserve, and setting up a Preliminary Final clash with Drysdale this Saturday at Grinter Reserve, Moolap.

Last year the Seagulls were beaten by the Tigers in the qualifying final by 75 points, before beating the Hawks by 36 points in the preliminary final and going on to beat the Tigers by 55 points.

Barwon Heads coach Mitch Herbison was hopeful for an upset win last Saturday, after Torquay had dominated the home-away season, but had to settle for doing it the hard way again like last year.

Torquay got off to a good start, holding off Barwon Heads at every change and keeping the Seagulls to only one goal in each of the last three quarters.

Anglesea was no match for Drysdale in the elimination final on Sunday, with the Hawks leading at every change and showing consistency when it counted to end the Roos’ season 13.15 (93) to 7.15 (57).

This Saturday’s preliminary final is bound to be an exciting match, with Drysdale keen to make amends for last years loss to Barwon Heads in the same match.
