CEO Stephanie Tully said there was growing demand for new routes.

“Creating a direct link between Avalon and Brisbane will provide even more options for Victorians wanting to travel to Queensland at an affordable price, as well as boost tourism to the beautiful Surf Coast region and surrounds,” Ms Tully said.

“It’s been 20 years since we first took to the skies, allowing more Australians to travel for less and with every opportunity we’re excited to be expanding our network further.

Airport CEO Tony Brun welcomed the announcement, saying it was a great step for Avalon.

“Opening up that channel (to Victoria), four million in Southeast Queensland, huge markets and potential,” he said.

“The Great Ocean Road, Geelong, the wineries – there is so much to offer for that market to come down.

“So it should help stimulate tourism in the region as well.”
