Barwon Health’s allied health workers are set to be involved in statewide strike action today.
A 24-hour action has been called as workers continue to push for better pay and conditions.
Members of the Health Services Union and Allied Health Professionals Association will be involved, but will have staff on hand for any emergencies.
Matt Hammond form the HSU says people requiring emergency support would not be put at risk.
“I can assure you that the most unwell people will be really well looked after,” he said.
“But for those with more minor conditions, like aches and sprains, it may take longer to be attended to than they would normally.”
Andrew Hewat from the AHPA says members are frustrated with the current situation.
“We’re concerned about the pay rates,” he said.
“They’re far too low. And we’re concerned that the conditions we have called on to be fixed have not been addressed.
“We’ve been left with no option other than to take industrial action.”
