Emergency services are on the scene following an incident at Avalon airport.
Calls to Geelong Broadcasters have confirmed the airport has been closed, with patrons leaving the site.
It’s understood it relates to a bomb scare.
A caller said they had been turned away when arriving at the airport.
“Everyone is being turned away and asked to park on the road,” he said.
“We pulled up next to someone who said it was apparently a bomb scare.
“There’s cars everywhere outside.”
A commentor on social media said his flight was cancelled.
“We arrived at the airport at 5.50am,” he said.
“At 6.05 am we were evacuated to the drop off point. Once police arrived, they arrested a guy for questioning and we were moved further back to the short term car park. Once we were told our flight was cancelled and we were put on another flight, we left.”
There have been further reports of an arrest being made.
Police said an evacuation was ordered.
“Police are conducting a safety check at Avalon Airport,” a spokesperson said,.
“Emergency services were called to the premises just before 6am.
“The building has been evacuated and area cordoned off as a precaution while the investigation is ongoing.”
