A local organisation aiming to help the homeless has called on the state government to deliver on its housing commitment.
The Barwon South West Homelessness Network says social housing promised in Geelong as part of the cancelled Commonwealth Games legacy items still has not been delivered.
There are more than 5,200 priority households in Greater Geelong on Victorian Housing Register, with more than 800 on the Surf Coast.
Rebecca Callahan from the Network said it was getting desperate in the region.
“Everything seems to be committed under the Big Housing Build as far as funding currently,” she said.
“What will come after the Big Housing Build to be able to address that volume of people and households experiencing homelessness and family violence.”
Ms Callahan said the region needed the housing promised as part of the athlete’s village, which would have been built in Geelong.
“Around 30 per cent of that, which is what the peak bodies were calling for to remain as permanent social housing, would have been underway or potentially built.”
