A Tarneit man is facing charges over a series of alleged car jackings and attempted car thefts in the Werribee area yesterday.
The 33-year-old allegedly stole a car and tried to steal two others before he was eventually arrested at a Market Street property.
“Around 12.30pm it’s alleged the offender approached a woman who was placing her baby in the car on Shaws Road and attempted to steal her car but was unsuccessful and ran off on foot,” police said in a statement.
“The offender then allegedly attempted to carjack a man sitting in his car on Shaws Road about midday, but the owner refused to get out, so the offender fled on foot into a nearby reserve.
“No one involved was physically injured.
“The 33-year-old Tarneit man was located inside a property he is alleged to have broken into on Market Road around 4pm and taken into custody.”
Charges include carjacking, theft of motor vehicle and possessing a prohibited weapon
He’s to front Wyndham Magistrates’ Court later today.
