The Crime Statistics Agency has revealed the latest data across Greater Geelong, with the region recording a 5.6% spike in recorded offences in the year ending September.
Across the 12 month period, 25,547 offences were recorded, 37.5% of which were unsolved.
Greater Geelong’s offence rate per 100,000 population sitting at 8,632, just below the state rate of 9,030.2.
The top offence across the region was breaching a family violence order, followed by various theft offences.
Geelong’s CBD was the top suburb for offences, followed by Norlane, Corio and Lara.
A huge spike in offences recorded in Queenscliffe, up 39.4% from 66 to 92 in the tiny local government area (LGA).
In Wyndham, 25,090 offences were recorded, up 17.9%.
Theft from a motor vehicle was the most common offence on the Surf Coast, with Torquay accounting for almost half of all offences in the LGA.
The Golden Plains region was the only LGA in our region to record a decrease in the number of offences recorded, down 1.4% over the 12 month period.
