Two nabbed in early morning arrests

A couple of busy nights for local police officers, with multiple arrests made.

Officers arrested a 31-year-old Newcomb man around 3.30am on Tuesday in possession of what was described as a medium sized quantity of cannabis on Fellmongers Road Breakwater.

Police said the man will be charged with possession of cannabis and displaying false plates and will face court later this year.

Police said there were lessons to learn about cannabis use.

“People need to understand how dangerous cannabis is – it’s a segway drug and exacerbates mental health conditions,” a spokesperson said.

“We see it destroy peoples lives.”

A 35-year-old Thompson man was arrested at 3am on Wednesday on Loch Street while allegedly looking into cars, found to be in possession of a knife and amphetamine.

He was also charged with giving a false name or address and will face court later this year.

“The incident highlights the importance of locking your cars, keeping them parked off roads, keeping valuables out of sight and installing car alarms.”
