A lifeline for a non-profit group helping those in Geelong’s northern suburbs, with Northern Futures receiving a $30,000 emergency grant from the Geelong Community Foundation.
The grant will enable the organisation that addresses disadvantage to keep going for another six months.
Foundation CEO Gail Rodgers said Northern Futures was forced to use its cash reserves after the state government did not renew contracts in its 2023/24 budget.
“Northern Futures is well-known to our community because of the success of its pathways programs,” she said.
“We do not want to lose Northern Futures from our community; the transformation for many has been life-changing.
“This $30,000 grant will ensure ongoing positive outcomes for program participants while creating some breathing space for the Northern Futures team to find future solutions for sustainable funding.”
The organisation’s CEO Andrew Palmer said they were very grateful for the emergency grant, allowing them to continue to address disadvantage in the 3214 postcode.
