Petrol prices across Geelong and the Surf Coast will start to rise from today.

The fuel excise reduction is being wound back by 16 cents a litre.

By 6am, prices remained largely unchanged, many stations still sitting at less than $1.50.

However some stations had advised through the state’s FuelSaver app that they were capping prices at closer to $1.70 due to the likelihood of an increase in line with the end of the excise.

The federal government previously said it would continue to work to reduce the burden of fuel prices.

“We’ll continue to do what we can to shield Australians from the worst impacts of this conflict including securing additional fuel from our partners,” a statement said.

“Despite the welcome and substantial drop in the price of petrol recently, we recognise people are still under pressure.

“This extra month of fuel discount will help Australian motorists and businesses with the cost of living as this support tapers off.”
