Local firefighters are hoping for the best but preparing for the worst on what could be the hottest day of 2024 so far.

CFA Duty Officer Ian Beswicke said they would be monitoring the entire district.

“Fire is not picky where it starts, it could start anywhere in our district,” he said.

“We’ll monitor all areas, we’ll have our fire towers up that’ll be spotting for any smoke that’s in the areas.”

And locals are being urged to look out for family and friends during today’s conditions.

Ziad Nehme from Ambulance Victoria said people need to take action to keep themselves safe.

“Ensure you’re not outside or caught outside on the hottest part of the day,” he said

“Monitor how long you’re exposed to heat and make sure you’re taking those preventative actions such as hydrating yourself.”

We are also being encouraged to keep an eye out for the warning signs that our pets are struggling.

Dr Julia Ferguson from Lara Pet Hospital said animals were just as vulnerable as humans.

“If someone is concerned about what their animal is looking like if they’ve been out for a few hours and come back and find the animal is entirely distressed or just not quite right, just give your regular vet a call,” she said.
