Group rescued after getting caught in rip

Surf life savers are pleading for people to be aware of safety before getting into the water (Life Saving Victoria).

Three people have been taken to hospital after getting caught in a rip at Apollo Bay.

It is understood five people were caught in the rip at an unpatrolled beach late Sunday morning.

Lifesavers were called to the area to help after the group managed to make it back to shore.

Ambulance Victoria says a man in his 40s and two teenager girls were taken to University Hospital Geelong in a stable condition.

Life Saving Victoria has warned Victorians are 51 per cent more likely to drown on a public holiday than any other day of the year.

Twenty-six people drowned over Summer in the state.

Anyone planning to hit the beaches today are being urged to swim at a patrolled location and ensure they have someone looking out for them.
