Pauline Hanson has called for a change in the temperature in the election campaign, while also calling for more action on crime in Victoria.

The federal One Nation leader was in Geelong yesterday after a One Nation volunteer was allegedly assaulted in Torquay.

A man in his 60s remains in hospital after he was allegedly attacked with a baseball bat on Sunday morning outside his home.

It’s alleged that a 37-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were vandalising a One National corflute outside the man’s home when he confronted the duo, leading to the man being attacked.

The 37-year-old has been charged with assault and is set to face court next week, while the 14-year-old was cautioned.

Hanson says the temperature of the current political climate is far too high.

“Whether Ben Carroll gets back in, or Jess Wilson, ore One Nation, we all have to do better,” she said.

She added crime remains a major issue.

“This isn’t a one off,” she said.

“It is happening all the time in this state, and that’s why you need strong leadership to deal with it.”

Discussion around violence in politics has been a major talking point in recent weeks following the alleged attack on independent MP Helen Haines in Wangaratta last month.

Dr Haines continues to recover after losing both her legs when she was allegedly attacked repeatedly with a car.
