Clients of a home builder with contracts in Geelong, Wyndham and Melbourne face an anxious wait as the company battles an attempt to force it into liquidation.
Apex Homes, which is based in North Melbourne and touts itself as “Melbourne’s leading home builder”, owes tradies tens of thousands of dollars according to a report in the Herald Sun.
Construction work has been stalled for months and the business could be ordered into liquidation at the end of the month, according to the newspaper.
Concreting business Aerolink Property Group has lodged an application to have Apex wound up, claiming it is owed more than $46,000.
The Herald Sun says while Apex still has multiple outstanding debts, other tradies say their outstanding amounts have now been paid.
The company told Newscorp it would oppose the court case and was attempting to trade out of its financial difficulties.
A spokesperson is quoted as saying the business went through a restructure early this year in a bid to address customer concerns.
One customer told the paper he terminated his contract with Apex after the build stretched from the contracted 380 days to almost two years.
Apex said customers who end their contracts will have their deposits refunded, minus expenses already incurred.
