Doctors in Geelong and Werribee are among those who can now diagnose and treat ADHD.
As of today 150 specially trained doctors will be able to assess patients and prescribe medication without a psychiatrist being required.
The system set to drastically cut the wait time for those waiting for ADHD diagnosis.
The policy was announced earlier this year.
Minister for health Harriet Shing said at the time it was a great outcome for those waiting for a diagnosis.
“Getting an ADHD diagnosis shouldn’t cost thousands of dollars or take a year of waiting,” she said.
“By training GPs to diagnose and treat ADHD, we’re helping people get the support they need, closer to home.”
Mental health minister Ingrid Stitt added it was an important opportunity.
“We are making it cheaper and easier for families to access timely ADHD care,” she said.
“These changes are important – giving more Victorians the chance to thrive.”
