The whole of central and western Victoria are under total fire bans with the temperature headed for the high 30s or early 40s.
Geelong and the Surf Coast will swelter through a hot 37 before a windy, late cool change.
The fire danger rating for the Central Region is listed as extreme.
Brendan Lawson from the CFA said conditions would be extremely dangerous in the region.
“Around Geelong, right through to Lorne and back into Avalon, we will be in extreme fire danger,” he said.
“Fair to say that all our community needs to be aware of the conditions.”
Mr Lawson said local teams who had been helping with the out of control bushfire north-west of Ballarat have returned home for the day.
“In the late 24-hours we have descaled our commitment into those fires to make sure that we had a really strong capability in the Geelong region.”
A total fire ban means no fires can be lit at all in the open today.
