The member for South Barwon was announced the parliamentary secretary in June last year when the Victorian government revealed it was planning to host the 2026 games.

However, Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed last week the Games would not be held in regional Victoria in three years, blaming a cost blowout in the budget.

Jacinta Allan and Harriet Shing forfeited their Games-related portfolios, and the Victorian opposition is calling for the local to be stripped of additional responsibility for the Games.

The Coalition says Mr Cheeseman should also repay any money he received as Parliamentary Secretary since the Games were canned.

Mr Cheeseman said he will continue as a parliamentary secretary for the time being.

“My new duties will be confirmed before parliament sits next week and I’ll then transition into that role,” he said.
