Man flown to hospital after Christmas Eve crash

One person has been flown to hospital after a serious two-car collision in Lorne.

A man in his 50s was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries, while a woman in her 20s was taken to University Hospital Geelong by road ambulance.

The male was the driver and sole occupant of a ute travelling outbound.

The woman was the driver and sole occupant of a sedan travelling inbound and suffered minor injuries.

Emergency services were called to Cumberland River at 9:50am after the collision.

The Great Ocean Road was shut in both directions near the intersection of Cumberland Road and remained closed as of 12:30pm, with emergency services directing traffic.

Motorists have been advised to follow their direction and allow extra time when travelling through the area.
