“The 37-year-old man from Greater Geelong was issued a penalty notice for failing to ensure passenger under 16 years old is appropriately secured.

“He received a $407 fine and three demerit points.”

The child was placed in the correct seat before the driver was allowed to continue.

“Officers would like to remind motorists that it is a legal requirement for children to be seated in a child restraint, a booster seat or an adult seatbelt that is properly adjusted and fastened.

“The type of restraint to be used depends on the person’s age and size.”
