Geelong police are taking part in a statewide road blitz over the long weekend.
Operation Arid is now underway, running until 11.59pm Monday.
Police are warning of the dangers of speeding and fatigue over the break, which is the first since the start of the school year.
Marked and unmarked police vehicles will be on the roads, patrolling metro and rural areas.
Traffic is expected to increase across Geelong and the Surf Coast as people hit the beach to cool off in the hot weather.
Acting Sergeant Jamie Davidson from Geelong Highway Patrol urged local drivers to be patient.
“Patience is the biggest thing,” he said.
“Be alert, check your surroundings, don’t take things for granted.
“You will get to your destination, but just do it safely.”
There will also be a major police presence around music festivals and events that are happening across the state over the long weekend.
Drivers are being advised to expect to be tested for drugs and alcohol.
