Victoria’s Upper House has voted to support the Liberals’ motion, after the Andrews Government scrapped the Games, set to be held in part across Geelong, two weeks ago.
The Premier at the time claimed the cost of hosting had blown out to more than $6 billion.
“This motion is a real turning point for Victoria,” Liberal Leader John Pesutto said.
“Today, every non-government upper house member has stood up to the spin, deflection, waste and mismanagement of the Andrews Government,” he said.
“This inquiry will uncover the truth which Daniel Andrews is so determined to keep hidden and provide Victorians with the basic answers and information that they deserve.
“The Andrews Government’s Commonwealth Games debacle has seriously damaged Victoria’s reputation and standing on the international stage, and through this inquiry, those responsible will be held to account.”
The Committee will report by April 2025.
