Police crack down on mall

More than 70 people have been penalised as part of a police operation in Geelong’s Westfield shopping centre.

Local police targeting the mall with arrests including for theft, drug possession and outstanding warrants.

All up 25 people were charged, while 47 cautions were handed down as part of the week long operation.

Police say that the majority of offences were related to theft, with no crimes against another person as part of the operation.

Included among the offences were a 20-year-old woman and 19-year-old woman from Melbourne arrested for allegedly stealing $5,000 worth of items from a retail store.

Police also set up road check point out of the CBD, with a number of road offences detected as well.

A similar operation in the April holidays saw more than 40 arrests.
