There are calls for Premier Jacinta Allan and former Commonwealth Games parliamentary secretary Darren Cheeseman to resign over the now canned 2026 event.
It follows an Auditor-General’s report showing cancelling the Games cost almost $600 million.
The report said the government’s claim the Games would have blown out to $6.9 billion as the reason for dumping the event was inflated.
Geelong would have been one of the main regional hosts, had the event gone ahead.
Member for Western Victoria Joe McCracken said the release of the report shows South Barwon MP Mr Cheeseman and the Premier could not be trusted.
“They need to front the (parliamentary) inquiry and answer questions about when they knew the Games were going south,” he said.
“It’s clear in documents and in the VAGO report that the government knew the games were not looking good.”
Ms Allan has previously refused to front the inquiry.
