Geelong’s pubs and clubs have been given permission to stay open all night for the Socceroos clash on Saturday morning.
The state government is giving all venues permission to keep the doors open and the beer flowing for the Aussies’ do-or-die match against Egypt.
They’ll also be allowed to trade for up to an hour after the game.
Premier Jacinta Allen said it was an easy call to make.
“The best thing about Victoria during the World Cup is watching our bars, streets and public spaces come to life,” she said.
“But the next big match starts at 4am Melbourne time when most pubs and venues aren’t licensed to operate.
“I am announcing that my government will use its powers under the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 to grant automatic approval for every pub and licensed venue in Victoria to operate for the game.
“That means doors open, big screen on – everyone welcome.
“Venues showing the broadcast can stay open all night and the last service will be an hour after the match ends.’’
It’s recommended you contact your favourite venue to see if they are remaining open.
