Roads near Portarlington pier are set to be involved in a new road safety trial that will see speed limits slashed.

The streets set to be dropped to 30km an hour as part of a government road safety trial.

More than 100 projects of the like are being funded across the state.

Other areas including Phillip Island and Chapel Street are expected to also be involved in the trial.

Roads and Road Safety Minister Ros Spence said the changes would provide councils an opportunity to make the decisions themselves.

“We have updated Victoria’s Speed Zoning Policy to give councils more flexibility to set the most appropriate speed limits on local roads – including 30km/h zones – and this investment is helping back those changes with practical safety upgrades for local communities.”
