Weapons operation leads to six arrests

police operation file imagePolice have carried out an operation aimed at cracking down on people carrying weapons at the Werribee Train Station, leading to the arrests of six people.

Officers from the Transit Safety Division conducted the operation last Thursday to detect weapons offences and enhance community safety.

Six people were arrested for a range of offences including carrying a concealed weapon, stating a false name, assault and being wanted on warrant.

Five of those arrested were charged on summons and will appear before court at a later date, the sixth was issued with a caution.

“In an ideal world, we would never have to run these operations, but the reality is a small number of people choose to carry weapons,” Transit West Inspector Fiona Curnow said.

“Our message is clear: we simply won’t tolerate it,” she said.
