Geelong Football Club has signed basketballer Joe Furphy as a Category B Rookie for 2024.
The Cats say the 2.03m athlete is a raw product with a big leap and other talents they are wanting to develop.
The 24yo played one match for the Northern Knights in 2018 before turning to chasing a basketball career.
Geelong Football Manager Andrew Mackie said Joe had exciting attributes.
“Basketball and Australian rules football have a lot of transferrable skills and as a Club, we are excited to see what Joe can do as part of our development program,” he said.
“With Joe already spending time in various different sporting environments, we feel he is well placed to take on the challenge of being an AFL player.”
Joe will join his teammates in November when the club returns for pre-season training.
