An investigation is underway after a boy with a disability was left alone on a school bus, after missing his stop at Colac Specialist School.

The young student fell asleep during his trip to school on Tuesday March 12, according to a report in the Herald Sun.

When he awoke and realised he was alone he managed to escape the bus before knocking on a window at the bus depot to get the attention of staff.

The Herald Sun quotes “sources” as saying the bus driver and a carer who was also aboard the bus were fired for failing to account for all students at the end of the journey, as they are required to do.

The Victorian Department of Education told the paper the incident was unacceptable and current processes are now under review.

The boy was not injured.
