A boost for capacity on Wyndham Vale trains, with the Victorian government announcing almost $15 million in this year’s state budget.
It says the nine-car trains will run during peak times, having up to 50 per cent more capacity than the current six carriages.
It comes as the West Tarneit Station prepares to open later this year.
Labor announced on Monday there would be two extra trains each hour in the mornings and afternoons on the Werribee train line.
Public Transport will continue to be free until the end of May, with the government also announcing there will be half price fares for the rest of the year.
Member for Lara Ella George said the fare reductions would help locals facing cost of living pressures.
“Public transport has been free since April 1, and this will continue into May,” she said.
“The increased cost of living is hitting families across Geelong, and the war in the Middle East continues to put pressure on petrol prices.”
